Founded in 1979, the Canterbury Bears company is a family business whose workshops are located in the English village of Littlebourne in Kent, just 4 miles from the ancient and beautiful city of Canterbury. In 1987 Canterbury Bears was granted the privilege to use the coats of arms of the City of Canterbury as its logo. This ancient coat of arms is registered by the Garter King of Arms and is circa 11th Century.
The studio /workshop occupies what was once a mushroom farm, and is surrounded by large apple orchards. The company excels in the creation of fine collectable teddy bears, gollies and other creatures. Their creations are hand crafted with great care using natural materials such as mohair, wool and alpaca.
Produced in 1990, Canterbury Brown Dressing Gown Bear is 13 inches tall and is fully jointed. This gorgeous bear has brown glass eyes, is made of brown wool, has a brown thread stitched nose and mouth and has brown suede paw pads. He wears a wonderful brown coat emblazoned with the Canterbury emblem.
He has all his tags - manufacture's hang tag and a stitched Canterbury tag inside to collar of his brown wool coat. His hang tag has been handsigned by Maude and John Blackburn, the creators of Canterbury Bears.
