Shirley Temple Doll in Box 22" - Ideal Novelty & Toy Company by Ideal Toy Novelty and Toy Co. Released: Approximately 1935 Material: 22 inch all Composition Doll
This lovely 22 inch composition Shirley Temple doll was produced in 1930’s by the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.
Face & Body: This Shirley Temple is all composition, jointed at legs, arms and head, has glassine sleep eyes (cloudy)with full sable lashes (a couple of eye lashes missing), feathered brows, painted lower lashes, open mouth with six upper teeth and tongue, dimples, good coloring, blonde mohair wig in original set. She is marked on her back “Shirley Temple” 22 and on the back of the neck “Shirley Temple”. She has been restrung and will hold a pose. The composition is in very good original condition (very little crazing)with the exception of a tiny crack under the doll’s left eye (1/4 inch - see photo). There are typical rubs around the joints (top of arms, legs and at base of neck. There are rubs on the sides of the legs as shown in photos.
Clothing: Shirley Temple is wearing an original Shirley Temple styled red and white pin dot dress, accented in red edging and red ribbons (ribbons are replaced). The label is no longer present. Sadly, the dress has significant damage on the front bodice and skirt and though the presentation is still very appealing, it should eventually be replaced. Under her dress, she wears the original white cotton onesie with attached slip. There is a small hole (1/4 inch)in the back right side of the onesie near the right shoulder. She wears her original socks and 1930’s center-snap oilcloth shoes. One sock has holes on the side and bottom. One shoe is missing the buckle and the snap closure is damaged.
A Shirley Temple doll wearing a similar dress is shown in the Suzanne Kraus-Mancuso book “Shirley Temple Identification & Price Guide” Volume II, pg 62.
Accessories: Included with this doll are the Shirley Temple Pin and Mirror.
The Pin: is marked on the front, around the photo, “The World’s Darling, Genuine Shirley Temple Doll” and on the back edge “Ideal Novelty & Toy Co, Reg US PAT. OFF., Her Signature, Made in USA. Am unable to read the stamp on the back of the pin.
The Mirror: is marked on front, below the photo, “Shirley Temple” and on the back edge “© FOX FILM CORP 1935”.
The Box: The original box with lid is present but is in very poor condition. The box label is marked Ideal Novelty and Toy Company.
